Pakistan ranks 8th amongst the countries with the highest burden of TB in the world and accounts for about 55% of tuberculosis burden in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMRO) of WHO In 2009, the number of incident TB cases was estimated at 420 000 cases with  an estimated incidence rate of 231/100 000 for all forms. The prevalence and mortality rates were estimated at 373 and 38 per 100 000 population, respectively.

Therefore Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the major public health problems in Pakistan. TB is responsible for 5.1 percent of the total national disease burden in Pakistan. The impact of TB on socio-economic status is substantial.

These patients if not properly treated land up in drug resistant tuberculosis .

This course on tuberculosis is developed by experts who have worked in the field of tuberculosis for decade and is reviewed by medical experts  of DUHS experts from other provinces and over seas and experts from Pakistan chest society. The content of the modules is adopted form  WHO guidelines, CDC guidelines Canadian chest society guidelines , BTS guidelines  Pakistan chest society guidelines and PTP guidelines.

This course is designed to provide on line training to family physicians and medical students in the field of tuberculosis and to provide a ready reference in their hands accessible from any place and at any time.
